Ogden-Clearfield Area Awarded $100,000 To Fight HungerTuesday, March 01, 2011 Ogden-Clearfield Area Awarded $100,000 To Fight Hunger |
On Thursday, February 24, 2011, organizations from Ogden City and Salt Lake City gathered at the Utah State Capitol Building to receive funding that will help to fight local hunger. This funding was presented as a result of a recent nation-wide Facebook campaign sponsored by Wal-Mart. The campaign provided for six cities who received the most online support to be awarded funding for their regions.
Salt Lake City placed first in the competition and received $1 Million. The Ogden-Clearfield area placed fourth overall and $100,000 was divided among community organizations. Catholic Community Services received $75,000 in funding, which will go toward refrigerated food trucks that will be used to improve the delivery of food assistance to struggling families. St. Anne’s Center received $25,000, which will go toward the purchase of a box truck to allow the Center to pick up donated food items and distribute these to the women’s shelter.
Ogden City Council Chair Caitlin Gochnour participated as a speaker at this event, along with Governor Gary Herbert, Clearfield City Mayor Don Wood and Salt Lake County Mayor Peter Corroon.
